LES FLEURS DU MAL
– THE FLOWERS OF EVIL –
Les Fleurs Du Mal is a homage to the poem series of the same name by the French 19th century symbolist poet Charles Baudelaire, intertwining the dark beauty of his era with contemporary existential challenges. These haunting images utilize the early tintype photography aesthetic, full of scratches and corrosion, which befit Baudelaire's era and add psychological depth. It is striking to see how each of the subjects manages to express themselves uniquely with their own characteristic 'dark flowers'. Ultimately, the series serves as a profound commentary on humanity's ongoing existential and psychological struggles, inviting reflection on our own minds as well as our place in the universe.
Charles Baudelaire
Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) was a French poet, translator, and literary and art critic whose reputation rests primarily on Les Fleurs du Mal, which was perhaps the most important and influential poetry collection published in Europe in the 19th century. More than a talent of 19th-century France, Baudelaire is one of the major figures in the literary history of the world.
